Trouble at Table 5 Is All Joy and No Trouble

Trouble at Table 5: The Candy Caper

Trouble at Table 5: The Candy Caper by Tom Watson is an absolute win! I want to hug the author for capturing what I consider real kiddos with quirks and no filters!

Molly has to know things. She gets an idea in her head and cannot move on until she resolves the question or issue. She only eats Froot Loops in a certain order and only certain colors. Socks have to be folded in a certain way. Her pillows have to be in a certain order. I love that Molly has a ‘this is how I am’ attitude. I know so many kiddos with similar needs/wants, and it is so refreshing to read about this darling character.

Molly spies a big mason jar full of Skittles on her principal’s desk. And just has to know how many are in there. Must. Know.

Read along as Molly and her pals Simon (no filter) and Rosie (math wiz) think up of covert ops to get the mason jar and count the candy.

The illustrations are incredible.

Also super fun? Check out the image above in the bottom right. As the reader finishes each chapter, the block becomes red to show how much of the book is left. Brilliant! That would be a great visual feature in a lot adult books, in my humble opinion.

The extra great news is that Tom Watson has already written three other books in this series. You better believe I’ll be adding those to my cart!
