Not all lies are created equal and Lisa Scottoline’s One Perfect Lie is here to prove it! This suspense novel isn’t super new (2017) but I knew it would be good because my MIL passed it along, and she finds incredible books.
I listened to the audiobook version for half and finished the last half reading the book. (I always have an audiobook cued up in my Libby app for drives to get groceries, dance pick-up, etc.)
Tee Me Up
Chris Brennan is new to Central Valley, Pennsylvania. He is all sorts of calculating and shady and I had a target on his back from page one.
Chris applies to be a teacher at the local high school and to portray his good guy image, he also volunteers to help coach the varsity baseball team. Chris’s goal is to get as much intel on these juniors and seniors in a short amount of time. He has no plans for staying in town for long. He has some serious tricks up his sleeve.
Remember, not all lies are created equal.
Dig Deeper for the Truth
We have one baseball team member (Raz) who lost his father and is a bit wayward currently. Another baseball player who is an entitled player (no pun intended) (Evan). And a third baseball player (Jordan) who is on the straight-and-narrow, but his mom worries he is being influenced by teammates.
Chris looks to these students as crucial members in his game. Their respective mothers all present hurdles for Chris – and raise their own problems as well.
Something’s Not Right
Central Valley encounters a tragedy and something is amiss. Where does Chris fit into this and why is he so interested in the baseball players?
Remember, not all lies are created equal…
Verdict?
I loved this book! I couldn’t listen to this fast enough or read it fast enough because I was consumed! This is my first book by Lisa Scottoline and it certainly won’t be my last! I love a good suspense novel and I think I just opened Pandora’s box with this author!
