This summer’s most-anticipated young adult novel is Blackout by SIX incredible authors (Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone [her books are insanely good], Angie Thomas [again, insanely good], Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon). What magic can happen when New York experiences a city-wide blackout?
Read this book!
One of the many reasons I love young adult books: enough excitement and drama to keep you interested in staying up late to read, but not as much heavy drama.

What you’ll find in Blackout are interwoven stories written by six extremely talented authors. In those stories, you’ll find six different kinds of love.
- Exes
- Boy-boy
- Girl-girl
- Best friends
- Love triangle
- New love
What I take away from each of these love stories is fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of being hurt. Fear of not measuring up. Fear of losing love.
What keeps me coming back for me stories just like this is that it’s all worth it. I’m sure you agree.
Fave quotes
“You can’t be brave unless you’re at least a little scared.”
“Things is, though, if I can’t love and accept myself just as I am, why the hell would I expect anybody else to?”
What you’ll find here
Choosing someone else’s mess because that’s part of loving someone. You’d rather have that one person with their mess than any other person without that mess.
Coming to terms with other people’s expectations.
The art of a hand-written letter.
So?
Did I love it or really, really like it? I really, really liked it! The authors’ works speak for themselves. The cover is great. I love the concept. I love the interconnected stories. Would I call it my favorite YA book ever? Probably not, but so fun and enjoyable!
