Christmas Camp by Karen Schaler grabbed my attention lickity split. My name is Kelly and I judge a book by its cover. Terrible? Yes. I’m sure I’m missing out on worlds of fantastic reads because I think the cover is for the birds. Alas, this gem caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to start it. August Christmas book a bit aggressive for your style? Yeah. I kinda thought it was a bit much too, but shoot, I’ll take all the happy moments during these repeat Groundhog Days.
I loved the audiobook narrator’s voice and delivery! I was able to listen for a chapter here and there folding laundry, doing bottles, cleaning up the basement and so on. Don’t let the book time frighten you when you’re picking an audiobook. Once you get in a rhythm you’ll find yourself increasing the speed of the book.
I’m a sucker for all Hallmark holiday movies. I’ll print the line-up of movies and we DVR them so we can watch when it works. (I can’t tell you the last time I watched ‘live’ TV.) Tiny Dancer and I can watch a quarter or a third after the three smalls go to bed. It takes us a bit to get through the holiday season, but it’s a sweet little tradition for us girls. (Plus, I know these movies are so G-rated so there aren’t any necessary ‘tricky’ conversations to explain things.) We haven’t seen this particular movie yet.
Haley – advertising go-getter with no time for the holidays or romance; assigned to Christmas Camp to get her head in the holiday game as prep for a work assignment
Ben – owner of the inn and host of Christmas Camp
Jeff – son of owner, helping at the Christmas Camp, resident single hottie
Now, we have all read enough of these irresistible holiday romance books to know that Haley not having time for the holidays is a cover-up. Will Haley find it in her heart to see the wonder in the season? Will she open her heart and mind to something other than work? I won’t spoil the ending for you. (wink, wink)
And did you see THIS? I knew I’d like this book before I started and I maaaaaaay have put this book in my cart before I even started Christmas Camp. I smell another (pine tree scented) winner.
AND for the littles, I found Grandfather’s Christmas Camp by Marc McCutcheon. The illustrations are fantastic and it was definitely a new-to-us Christmas book.
